Selkent expands FORS Gold fleet with EV vehicles saving 54 tonnes of CO2 per driver
Selkent has introduced new electric vehicles to its growing delivery fleet, improving operational sustainability and offering enhanced order fulfilment within the London and Birmingham areas.
As part of its ESG commitments, Selkent, a leading UK supplier of construction fixings and tools, has invested in three new hybrid vehicles, and one fully electric van. This brings its Sittingbourne-based delivery fleet to 16 vans and two lorries that operate in Birmingham, London and the surroundings areas.
As a FORS Gold accredited fleet, Selkent has demonstrated its commitment to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and environmental performance. The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) sets the standard for safer, smarter, and greener road transport operations, with demands for exacting targets and a focus on operators promoting FORS standard to their supply chain.
Statistics show that each electric driver will save 54.14 tonnes of CO2e over a vehicle’s typical 150,000-mile lifetime1, highlighting the importance of switching to EV, especially for delivery fleets who will reach that lifetime mileage quicker than the average driver. With the expansion, Selkent is furthering its strategy to support sustainability across the supply chain as well as focusing on operational improvements to reduce its carbon footprint.
Offering same day delivery service inside the M25, the company is focused on ensuring customers have what they need, when they need it. Shaun Bushnell, Managing Director at Selkent said: “The expansion of the delivery fleet means an increasing focus on helping customers manage their on-site consumables and assisting with lower project storage requirements. This enables contractors and builders to keep costs to a minimum whilst feeling assured that there’s minimal lead time in acquiring resources.”
With an additional fleet based in Birmingham, the Selkent can provide delivery nationwide. Next-day delivery is available throughout the country, using partnered delivery fulfilment services for any areas outside of their delivery hub catchment areas to help minimise environmental impact.
Shaun Bushnell added: “The expansion of our fleet underpins our commitment to customer service, which is further supported by our delivery personnel. All our drivers go through an induction programme followed by training that involves a buddy share, helping our staff to learn the regular locations and construction sites, as well as establish good relationships with our customers. We are currently experiencing a period of growth, and enhancing the services we provide our customers is central to our increasing capabilities.”
